When It Comes to the Hottest Styles, Throwbacks Win Out Over Contemporary Cuts

(firmenpresse) - STERLING, IL -- (Marketwired) -- 08/20/13 -- Guys looking to impress the ladies may want to consider a different haircut. A new study commissioned by and conducted by Opinion Research Corporation reveals the majority of women prefer classic over contemporary when it comes to hairstyles for men. Which styles women find most attractive and what those looks say about the guys sporting them are included in a new infographic on the .

Hairstyles, much like fashion, are influenced by the latest trends in pop-culture. And given the choice between today's most popular contemporary and classic hairstyles, more than half of women favor the looks made famous by classic ad executives and the particularly preppy -- the side-part and crew cut. Not surprisingly, these iconic looks play a starring role in some of today's most popular television shows, movies and music. Other classic styles such as the tousled and buzzed are coveted by one in five women, while 10 percent find the more modern short and spiked styles, such as the faux-hawk, most appealing.

So what do women say about these looks and the guys who sport them? According to the study, guys with a side-part are looked at as suave and distinguished, traits often associated with classic movie stars of the 1950's. Men with a crew cut are considered trustworthy and intelligent while the classic buzz cut exudes confidence. On the other side of the spectrum, the beach-style tousled look says laid back and interesting while guys rocking a short and spiked hairdo ooze rebellious and adventurous.

As expected, age plays an important factor in a woman's hairstyle preference. The classic side part has the widest appeal, attracting women in their 30's, 40's and 50's. Guys seeking attention from ladies in their 20's would be best served with a crew cut or short and spiked look. The tousled look works best for women in their 20's and 30's while the buzz cut is favored with those in their 40's and 50's.
