Harper Government Invests in Improvements to Churchill's Community Infrastructure
(firmenpresse) - CHURCHILL, MANITOBA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/14/13 -- Today, the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for Hudson Square in Churchill under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"Our Government is focused on what matters to Canadians - creating jobs and growth," said Minister Rempel. "Through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Program, our Government continues to support communities across the country. Here in Churchill, Hudson Square is a focal point for community activity. These enhancements will help create a safe and pleasant environment for all to enjoy."
The Harper Government's investment of $150,250 will enhance Hudson Square by improving the lighting, upgrading the existing pedestrian corridors and improving the square's visual appearance. These upgrades will enhance the corridors, promoting physical activities, increasing safety for pedestrians and creating an attractive area to build on the tourist experience.
"A renewed and revitalized Hudson Square will provide all users with a safe and secure active living pedestrian corridor that will not only enhance our already enviable quality of life, but will also serve to encourage a healthy lifestyle during all seasons," said Mayor Michael Spence, Town of Churchill.
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
