Alberta Flood Aid Concert Nears Sell-Out, Hopes to Raise Over $1M for Flood Recovery

ID: 1253913

(firmenpresse) - CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/12/13 -- With only a few days remaining before the Alberta Flood Aid Concert on August 15th at McMahon Stadium, organizers say they are expecting to raise over $1M for The Calgary Foundation's Flood Rebuilding Fund.

General admission ticket sales have just passed 29,000 and are nearly sold out. The concert seating is set at 30,000.

"It has been incredible to see how many people and organizations have stepped up to make this concert a reality" says Peter Jurisic, chair of Alberta Flood Aid. "After the flood, people pulled themselves up by their bootstraps and without hesitation, began helping their neighbours rebuild. That same spirit has pushed this event forward against all odds" says Jurisic.

Organizers want the concert to be a celebration of the exceptional volunteer effort by Albertans thus far. They also want to raise substantial funds through ticket sales and donations. Organizers say it looks like the concert is on track to do just that.

The line-up of artists includes: Headliners Nickelback, Jann Arden, Randy Bachman, emcee Brent Butt, Tom Cochrane, Matthew Good, Colin James, Loverboy, Corb Lund, Johnny Reid, The Sadies, The Sheepdogs, and Ian Tyson. All have agreed to perform at no cost.

Sponsors are Telus, Westjet, Spyglass Resources Corp., BC Place, Alberta Government, Fasken Martineau, John St., Molson Coors, Canadian Western Bank, Price Waterhouse, Conoco Phillips Canada, ATCO Group, Rocky Mountain Catering and Canoe Financial.

Also supporting the concert are the Province of Alberta, the City of Calgary, Travel Alberta and McMahon Stadium Society.

Concert-goers are being encouraged to wear their rubber boots to the concert in solidarity with the thousands of volunteers who have contributed to the massive clean-up efforts since the flood devastated the southern half of the province in late June.

There will be a FREE #Bootson Stage prior to the main event in the McMahon Stadium parking lot. The family-friendly festival will feature local artists, food trucks, a Calgary Stampede barbeque and sponsor booths.

Concert t-shirts will also be available for sale outside and inside the venue to raise even more cash for the flood rebuilding fund.
