McKinstry Completes Energy Efficiency Upgrade for Advance School District
Lighting Upgrades Are Expected to Save Nearly $13,000 a Year on Utility Bills
(firmenpresse) - ST. LOUIS, MO -- (Marketwired) -- 08/09/13 -- McKinstry and the Advance School District in Advance, Missouri today announce a series of energy-efficient facility upgrades across all schools in the district. McKinstry helped the school district secure funding for the project through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
McKinstry is a nationally recognized construction, energy and facility services firm. The McKinstry team completed a lighting retrofit to the school over the summer break, a move that is expected to save the district nearly $13,000 every year on their utility bill.
"Students and staff members were the center of our focus for this project," said Joel Gundelfinger, business development manager for McKinstry's St. Louis operation. "We looked at how these changes would affect a student's ability to learn and the staff's ability to provide an effective and green learning environment."
Research and evaluations were conducted by McKinstry to determine the best use of resources for the school. Lighting levels in each area were determined based on the optimal brightness students need while at their desks. Light were replaced in all classrooms, the library, hallways, the gymnasium and the exterior.
"Our students, teachers and staff will notice the improvements immediately when they walk on campus," said Stan Seiler, Superintendent of Schools for the Advance School District. "The changes will provide our students with a better learning environment, and the energy savings offset the cost of the project. It's a win-win for us all around."
The lighting retrofit gives the school district a 20 percent cost savings on electricity each year. Optimized light sensors were installed to assist with managing costs by turning on lights when sensors are activated. LED light fixtures also were installed on the building's exterior to increase efficiency. The new updates are expected to generate an eight-year, simple-energy payback.
"By utilizing new technology in the district as a whole, we averted a lot of maintenance updates down the road," said Gundelfinger. "This is a long-term upgrade that will benefit the school for years to come and save the district significant costs."
