TCEU CUPE Local 416's New Campaign Pays Tribute to Toronto Workers

is introducing a new social media awareness campaign paying tribute to its hard-working members. The campaign will feature each of the union's 12 divisions, focusing on the specific jobs the Toronto Civic Employees do and the benefits they provide to the community.
"We want to give our members the thanks they deserve for their hard work," said CUPE Local 416 Vice President, Dave Hewitt. "They do a lot for the community and we want to expose that."
On July 20, Local 416's Solid Waste members put out a concrete effort to help clear away an excess of garbage burying Etobicoke streets. A week prior, a severe storm wreaked havoc on Etobicoke flooding basements and knocking out power. The storm left residents with an excess of flood-damaged furniture, rotting food and waterlogged building materials. With the help of Toronto's Solid Waste workers, the streets of Etobicoke were cleared quickly and efficiently.
"They did a great job," said Hewitt. "I think our members really showcased how invaluable they are and how integral they are to the well-being of the community."
TCEU CUPE Local 416's membership consists of Toronto workers from Waste Water, Transportation, Yorktown Family Services, Port Authority, Community Housing, EMS, Corporate Services, Solid Waste Management, Enwave, Animal Services, Parking Authority and workers from Parks and Recreation.
