Safeway and Compliments Ibuprofen Liquid Capsules: Labeling Error

Health Canada is advising Canadians that Vita Health Products Inc. is voluntarily recalling all lots of Safeway Ibuprofen Liquid Capsules (200 mg capsules, 72 in a bottle) and Compliments Ibuprofen Liquid Capsules (200 mg, 72 capsules in a bottle). The recall is due to a labeling error that incorrectly states the products are packaged with a child-resistant cap.
Health Canada is aware that Vita Health Products Inc. has requested that retailers return the impacted lots to the company.
Who is affected:
These products pose a risk to children who could open the bottle and ingest the bottle's contents. The risk of ingestion by children can result in ibuprofen overdose and serious health consequences including, seizures, kidney failure, heart problems and coma. Early signs of overdose include nausea, vomiting, lethargy and abdominal pain.
What consumers should do:
- Keep all medication out of reach of children.
- Check to see if they have any of the affected lots in their possession.
- Return the impacted lots to the place of purchase.
- Consumers who have any questions about these products can call the company.

What Health Canada is doing:
Health Canada is monitoring Vita Health's recall and will inform Canadians if new information comes to light. Vita Health Products Inc. has informed Health Canada that as of July 30, 2013, there had been no adverse reactions reported concerning these products. As well, Health Canada had not received any adverse reaction reports related to this issue as of July 19, 2013.
