(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 07/25/13 -- Alice Downing, Chair, Canadian Healthcare Association (CHA), and Chris Power, Chair, Association of Canadian Academic Healthcare Organizations (ACAHO), today announced that a merger of both organizations has been unanimously approved by its Members. The new organization will come into effect on January 1, 2014.

"Over the years, ACAHO and CHA have worked in strategic partnership to improve the overall performance of the health system," said Alice Downing. "The new organization resulting from unifying our two associations will significantly contribute to the public dialogue about the future of health care and innovation in this country."

"This merger builds on the foundations and strengths of both organizations to create a new vibrant organization," added Chris Power. "This stronger national health organization will provide unique perspectives in addition to other national health groups."

A transitional Board of Directors with six representatives from each organization will guide the organization for the first 12 months and will be co-chaired by Alice Downing and Chris Power.

New vision and mission statements uniquely position the new organization among health stakeholders:

Vision - Improving the health of Canadians through an evidence-based and innovative health system.

Mission - To advance an integrated, sustainable and accountable health system that provides Canadians with world-leading health services.

"Increasing value to our members has been a top priority throughout the merger process," noted Chris Power. "The new vision and mission provides increased opportunities for member priorities to be heard across stakeholders and at all levels of government."

Alice Downing concluded, "Chris and I would like to thank our Members for making this courageous decision. As a result, our combined voice will play a leading role in shaping the public policy dialogue about the future of health, health care and health research, and innovation in Canada."
