New Interactive Web Tools Explain Complex Food Safety Processes
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 07/25/13 -- Today, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) launched a new set of interactive web tools aimed at providing Canadians with relevant, easy- to-understand information explaining the beef processing and inspection process as well as the food safety investigation and recall process.
"These new tools clearly explain some of the complex systems that are at work every day to help keep food safe," said Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz. "By understanding the various safeguards and responsibilities in our food safety system, Canadians can have greater confidence in Canada's food supply and also see the important role they play in keeping food safe."
The Canadian food supply is one of the safest in the world. However, a key concept highlighted through these tools, is the reality that no food safety system can guarantee zero risk. The CFIA's role is to verify that industry is meeting Canada's food safety standards and when problems occur, to communicate possible food safety risks to Canadians.
The online consumer resources are key initiatives under the Safe Food for Canadians Action Plan, which commits to provide more information to consumers.
