Residence Inn Amelia Island Offers Great Rates, Prizes for Weekend Event

Those who are in search of their next lipsmackin' good meal should plan on attending the 4th Annual Great Southern Tailgate Cook-off, taking place near the event's host hotel, the Residence Inn Amelia Island.
On August 23rd and 24th, this crowd-favorite , sanctioned by The Kansas City Barbecue Society, will take over the main area of Fernandina Beach, pitting more than 50 amateur and professional barbecue teams against each other to compete for the title and a $20,000 prize.
While admission and parking are free, there are two special events that require an entry fee. The VIP Pig Pub ($5) is a shaded area with a prime view of the stage. Here visitors can keep cool under fans and enjoy drinks and food at tables or at the bar. Beer is available for purchase throughout the festival, but the Pig Pub is the only place where margaritas are for sale, too. Those who want a hand in deciding the winner should purchase a wristband ($10, includes voting tokens) for the People's Choice Contest from noon to 2pm on Saturday. Guests can sample entries from each team and use their 10 tokens to vote for their favorites (or give all 10 to the same team).
Returning for its 4th year as the Cookoff's host hotel, the Residence Inn Amelia Island is offering a special for that weekend, which includes special rates and the ability to book through a dedicated Web page (). It is also hosting a Facebook contest, where wristbands to the People's Choice Contest and official event t-shirts are up for grabs. The hotel's complimentary island shuttle will also be ready to take guests to and from the event.
