New Commander for the Canadian Army
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 07/18/13 -- Lieutenant-General Marquis Hainse assumed command of the Canadian Army from Lieutenant-General Peter Devlin today in an official ceremony on Parliament Hill. The ceremony was attended by the Honourable Rob Nicholson, Minister of National Defence, and presided over by General Tom Lawson, Chief of the Defence Staff.
"I congratulate Lieutenant-General Devlin for the leadership and dedication he demonstrated as Commander of the Canadian Army, and for the incredible devotion he has shown during his more than 35 years with Canadian Armed Forces," said Minister Nicholson. "I extend a warm welcome to the incoming commander, Lieutenant-General Marquis Hainse, who will follow the excellent example of his predecessor in leading the Canadian Army."
"I am truly honoured to preside over a Change of Command between two such highly accomplished and dedicated leaders. I am certain the Canadian Army will be very well served by an officer with the knowledge, experience and professionalism that Lieutenant-General Hainse brings with him to his new post," said General Tom Lawson, Chief of the Defence Staff. "As for Lieutenant-General Devlin, his service has been, in a word, exemplary. I thank him for his counsel and his unwavering commitment to the men and women he has led and served throughout his 35-year career. He is both a gentleman, and a soldier of the highest calibre. To General Devlin and to his family I extend my deepest appreciation for all they have done in the service of their country and for the Canadian Army over the years."
"Canadian soldiers are known throughout the world for their skill, bravery and professionalism," said Lieutenant-General Hainse. "It is a great honour for me to be appointed to this role and I thank Lieutenant-General Devlin for his tremendous work over the past three years."
Lieutenant-General Hainse enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in 1977 and was commissioned into the Royal 22e Regiment in August, 1980. He has held command appointments around the world: from Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2002 to Southern Afghanistan in 2007. Prior to his appointment as Commander of the Canadian Army, Lieutenant-General Hainse was Deputy Commander Allied Joint Force Command Naples.

Lieutenant-General Peter Devlin is retiring from the CAF after more than 35 years of loyal and dedicated service to his country.
