SmithGroupJJR Hires Don Posson as Co-director of Sustainable Design
(firmenpresse) - WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwired) -- 07/17/13 -- SmithGroupJJR has hired veteran mechanical engineer , PE, CCP, CPD, LEED AP BD+C, as the firm's co-director of sustainable design.
As a SmithGroupJJR sustainability leader, Posson will enhance and strengthen the firm's high-performance building design capability. Posson joins forces with architects , FAIA, LEED AP BD+C and , FAIA, LEED AP BD+C, long time co-directors of sustainable design for the firm.
Posson comes to SmithGroupJJR after serving as a managing principal/partner at Vanderweil Engineers, Alexandria, Va. Previously, he worked for SmithGroupJJR's Washington, DC office from 1992 to 1999 as chief mechanical engineer, eventually rising to director of engineering.
Serving in the role of engineering principal and lead mechanical engineer, Posson's most recent project completions include the new, 140,000-square-foot Bioscience Education Center for Montgomery College, Germantown, Md. Posson has been integral to the design of science and research facilities for a host of other institutions, such as Johns Hopkins University, George Washington University, George Mason University and Virginia Commonwealth University.
Other notable projects for Posson include the $200 million renovation and modernization of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, Kenneth E. Center, Washington, DC; the $120 million, complete modernization of the U.S. General Service Administration's Mary E. Switzer Building, home of the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services, Washington, DC; and the $800 million U.S. Food and Drug Administration headquarters consolidation, White Oak, Md.

Also in his new role at SmithGroupJJR, Posson will act as a lead mechanical engineer for SmithGroupJJR higher education and cultural projects. It is anticipated that he'll serve as a national resource for the firm's major practices and 10 offices.
Posson graduated with a Bachelor of Science in architectural engineering, Cum Laude, from Kansas State University. He is a registered professional engineer in DC, Maryland, Virginia and 15 other states. He is also a Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), a Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) and a LEED 2.0 Accredited Professional.
