Business Unusual: Calgary Folk Music Festival remains at Prince's Island Park

(firmenpresse) - CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/12/13 -- The 34th annual Calgary Folk Music Festival, July 25-28, 2013, will remain at its historical home, Prince's Island Park. After weeks of uncertainty due to significant damage from the great flood of June 2013, thanks to incredible work from the City and its Parks department and hundreds of amazing volunteers, the Island has been repaired enough for us to stage our festival.

Over 75 local, national and international icons and upstarts - including Alabama Shakes, Bahamas, Steve Earle, Thievery Corporation, M. Ward, Hayden, Creedence Clearwater Revisited, Kurt Vile and World Party - perform in concerts and on-the-fly collaborations on 7 stages. Like a mini town, the site boasts an interactive family area, talk tent, global culinary delights, a record tent and tree-shaded beer garden. It's a collective sound salvation for musical omnivores; a 4-day long weekend where a diverse, multi-generational audience is immersed in live music in a cool, relaxed atmosphere.

During the afternoon Friday and daytime Saturday and Sunday, unique 'arranged marriages' and concerts fill Prince's Island. Do some cross border shopping with world music artists Friday afternoon. Blues licks are traded Saturday on Harp Gallery. Caution is thrown to the wind on No Safety Net and gospel and spiritual music is celebrated Sunday at Power to the Steeple. Those are just a few of the 39 mashups we have programmed over the weekend.

Alterations to Prince's Island due to the flood have necessitated a couple of changes: a stage and our artisan market have both been relocated to Eau Claire Market.

The Festival also presents the 8th annual Boot Camp (at) NMC July 22-25. Students learn licks, tricks and tips from festival artists Amelia Curran, Dan Bern and Hayes Carll (songwriting), Albert Lee and Paul Pigat (guitar) and Samantha Martin and the Haggard (vocals). This year, due to flooding at their space, it has been moved to the Westin Hotel.

Friday and Sunday tickets are still available. For full schedules and tickets, call 403-233-0904 visit calgaryfolkfest.com.
