• GE Power Conversion Will Deliver Reliable and Efficient Systems to CITIC Heavy Industries Company Ltd. Removing the Emissions Equivalent of 500 Passenger Cars from the Road
• Energy Efficient Motor System Reduces Operational Costs Increasing Customer's Competitivity
• Angang Steel Adopts GE's Quadramatic™ Motor System Technology for the First Time

(firmenpresse) - PARIS—July 11, 2013—In a move that promises to improve efficiency and reliability while lowering emissions and saving money for the Angang Steel plant, GE’s Power Conversion business (NYSE: GE) is proud to announce that for the first time it will be installing motors that will help CITIC Heavy Industries Company Ltd. operate its Angang Steel grinding mill facility, located near Anshan, China, more competitively.

CITIC Heavy Industries Company Ltd. is turning to longtime partner GE to supply the latest in energy-efficient motors for its semi-autonomous grinding (SAG) system. To meet this demand, GE’s Power Conversion business will provide two 4,200 Quadramatic™ motors as well as the controls. GE also will supervise installation and commissioning.

GE’s Quadramatic™ motor system has one of the highest efficiency levels for dual-pinion, fixed-speed mill applications. Compared to induction or gearless technologies, a 9,000-horsepower (HP) Quadramatic motor system consumes approximately 4.5 million kilowatts (kWh) less electricity per year, avoiding the emissions of approximately 2,700 metric tons of CO2 on the U.S. grid. This is equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions of more than 500 passenger cars on U.S. roads and saves more than $300,000 in electricity costs annually at 2012 average U.S. industrial electricity prices of $0.07 per kWh.

According to Keiran Coulton, business leader for GE Power Conversion, “GE’s Quadramatic motor system is one of the only technologies that provides leading VARs with significant efficiency gains coupled with cost savings and reduced environmental impact without the need for additional equipment. This means a lower level of energy inputs for the same amount of output. We expect that our technology will bring significant improvements to energy efficiency in SAG systems at the Angang Steel plant.”

GE has supplied over 400 megawatts in motors and controls to China over the last seven years.
