Miguel Cabrera Selected as the Hickok Belt(TM) Award Winner for May 2013
(firmenpresse) - ROCHESTER, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 07/02/13 -- Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera has been selected as the Hickok Belt Award winner for the month of May 2013. Voting was conducted by a select panel of members of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA). The hard-hitting Cabrera slugged his way to the award with a torrid performance throughout May. For the month, Cabrera hit .379 with 12 HRs, 33 RBI and a .767 slugging percentage including a game on May 19 in which he went 4 for 4 with 3 HRs and 5 RBI.
Other finalists for the month of May in order of how the NSSA voters ranked them included: Tony Kanaan (auto racing), Jonathan Quick (hockey), Patrick Corbin (baseball), Floyd Mayweather (boxing), Kevin Durant (basketball), Tiger Woods (golf), Joel Rosario (horse racing), David Krejci (hockey), and Kevin Harvick (auto racing).
Cabrera's selection as the Hickok Belt Award winner for May 2013 recognizes him as "the best of the best" in professional sports for the month and makes him the fourth candidate eligible to receive the 2013 overall award, joining previous 2013 monthly winners Colin Kaepernick, Joe Flacco and LeBron James.
