Canada's Science Fiction Film/TV Awards Announce 2013 Winners
Vancouver Productions Top The Seventh Annual Constellation Awards

The winners for the seventh annual Constellation Awards, Canada's awards for excellence in science fiction film and television production, were revealed at ceremonies held on Saturday at the Holiday Inn Toronto/Markham. Canadian actors Andrew Jackson ('Split Decision') and Ellen Dubin ('Dead Before Dawn 3D') co-hosted this year's award ceremonies, which are presented annually by the TCON Promotional Society.
Vancouver-based television productions 'Continuum' and 'Primeval: New World' were the big winners of the evening. 'Continuum' picked up three awards, including "Best Series", "Best Script" for the show's pilot episode, and "Best Female Performance" for the show's lead actress, Rachel Nichols. 'Primeval: New World' followed close behind with two trophies, including 'Best Male Performance' for lead actor Niall Matter, and the signature award of the evening, "Outstanding Canadian Contribution to Science Fiction" going to the show's creators, Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens.
In the film categories, the time-travel film 'Looper' took home the trophy for "Best Film", while Mark Ruffalo won "Best Male Performance" for 'The Avengers'. Sarah Silverman picked up "Best Female Performance" for her work in the animated film 'Wreck-It Ralph', and 'Cloud Atlas' won the "Best Technical Accomplishment" trophy for its cinematography.
The evening also featured a charity auction held in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation Canada and Polar Bears International. Items auctioned included a visit to the set of the upcoming werewolf drama 'Bitten' generously donated by the show's producers and SPACE/Bell Media.
