Stanley Park Event to Celebrate Aboriginal People in the Skilled Trades
(firmenpresse) - VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/20/13 -- On June 21, join Kevin Evans, CEO of the (ITA), and Gary McDermott, ITA Director of Aboriginal Initiatives, along with Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training Shirley Bond, and Minister of State for Tourism and Small Business Naomi Yamamoto, as they celebrate the partnerships and successes of Aboriginal people in skilled trades training as well as B.C.'s Aboriginal cultures. The event is in conjunction with the and the opening of their Klahowya Village.
MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES:
This will be a very visual cultural event, with a traditional dance performance, and a number of photo and interview opportunities, including:
Kevin Evans, ITA CEO, and Gary McDermott, ITA Director of Aboriginal Initiatives, are available to discuss the future labour market requirements for skilled trades in BC and how Aboriginal training is crucial to meeting these requirements. They can also speak to the barriers Aboriginal people face when entering into the trades, and how to break these down to recruit and retain the skilled tradespeople B.C. need.
First Year Apprentice: Melinda Russell
Melinda, a member of the Mohawk Nation, living in Abbotsford, is training for her Professional Cook Level 1 qualification at . She will be available to discuss her experience training to be a cook and her future career plans.
Chef Instructor, Chris Monkman
Chris is the Chef Instructor/Program Administrator at . He will be available to discuss the Professional Cook Level 1 program as well as his successes in the trades.
