Houston Marriott South at Hobby Airport Hotel Engages 'Spirit to Serve'

The fifth annual Seniors Helping Seniors Day, held May 24, 2013, was the result of collaboration between the Pasadena ISD, Rebuilding Together Houston and other local sponsors, including the Houston Marriott South at Hobby Airport hotel, to help senior citizens spruce up their homes. The project focused on 17 area homes owned by senior citizens with no financial means or ability to complete repairs needed to maintain the houses. Seniors, teachers and staff from all of the district's five high schools rolled up their sleeves to scrape, paint and repair the homes and do needed yard work. Building materials, paint and other supplies were provided by Rebuilding Together Houston.
As part of the Hospitality Program at Pasadena High School, the Houston Marriott South at Hobby assisted with the community rebuilding program and the hotel's courtesy van provided transportation for project teams. Involvement in this most recent community service project is just one of many ways associates of the lodging step forward throughout the year as part of Marriott's "Spirit to Serve." Drawing on their natural instincts to provide hospitality services to others, supporting the Seniors Helping Seniors project is a perfect fit for the Houston lodging, where maintaining well-appointed guest rooms and is a daily standard.
Last year the Seniors Helping Seniors program drew 1,000 high school seniors to make it the largest Rebuilding Together Houston project ever conducted. The program has also received state and local recognition, receiving the Chairman's Distinguished Volunteer Spirit Award from Rebuilding Together Houston for 2009 and 2012.
