Nearly half of people living with diabetes, who inject, are not doing it right.

(firmenpresse) - MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 06/20/13 -- Editor's note: There is a photo, fact sheet and video associated with this press release.

Chances are you've upgraded your cell phone, car and computer in the last 10 years, but what about your insulin injection needle?

A recent study shows that 63 per cent of people living with diabetes have been using the same needle length that they started on at diagnosis. The study also confirms that close to 50 per cent have physical signs of improper injection technique(i).

Experts say IT(ii) matters

"Proper injection technique into healthy injection sites may help reduce insulin requirements on average by 25 to 30 per cent," says Carole Ann Maloney, RD, CDE, Clinical Education Specialist at BD, producer of the world's leading insulin injection needles. "A lot of people don't realize that the way insulin is injected is just as important as type and dose of insulin, nutrition and physical activity in managing diabetes. The good news is that it's easy to make a healthy difference by following a few simple tips," says Maloney.

Injection technique is key to helping people manage their condition

"With nearly 30 per cent of people living with diabetes not being able to recall ever having their injection sites checked(i), we're seeing a need for education in this area," says GTA-based Endocrinologist Dr. Anne Kenshole.
