(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 06/20/13 -- The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Industry, Minister of State (Agriculture) and Minister responsible for the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), today announced the appointment of Dr. Robert McCulloch as a member of the Council.

"I would like to welcome Dr. McCulloch as a new NSERC member," said Minister Paradis. "His strong background in technical education, skills training and applied research will be of great value to the work of the Council."

Dr. McCulloch recently retired after 10 years as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology. He is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research as well as the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies at the University of Regina.

Previously, he held several other teaching positions at the University of Regina, as well as various senior positions in the Office of the President.

In addition to NSERC, Dr. McCulloch is a member of several other organizations, including the College President's Network of the Association of Canadian Community Colleges, the Saskatchewan Labour Market Commission and the Wascana Centre Authority Heritage Advisory Committee. He was also the past chair of the Canadian Bureau for International Education.

Dr. McCulloch has a Chartered Director designation from McMaster University and a Certificate in University Management from the University of Manitoba. He holds a doctorate in Medical Imaging and Kinesiology and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from the University of Saskatchewan, as well as a Master of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Washington.

The agency supports almost 30,000 post-secondary students and post-doctoral fellows in their advanced studies. NSERC promotes discovery by funding approximately 12,000 professors every year and fosters innovation by encouraging over 2,400 Canadian companies to participate and invest in post-secondary research projects.
