Indiegogo Expands in Canada With New Payment Options and a Celebration of Groundbreaking Campaigns at Events in Toronto and Montreal
(firmenpresse) - SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/19/13 -- Indiegogo, the world's largest global crowdfunding platform, has announced a new payment option that simplifies how Canadians fund campaigns. Indiegogo campaigners who run campaigns in Canadian dollars are now able to accept credit card payments, in addition to PayPal, and receive funds in Canadian dollars (CAD), whether these funds are coming in from Nova Scotia, New York or New Delhi.
This feature means that funds stay as CAD and are disbursed in CAD, rather than being exchanged into USD. The end result is savings on foreign exchange, wire and bank fees and a higher potential total take home amount for Canadian dollar campaigns on Indiegogo.

Canadian campaigns have been featured on the site since its launch in 2008 and the number of active campaigns in Canada increased by 213% in the last year over the previous year. Currently the top five most active Canadian cities on Indiegogo are: Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa and Calgary.
Indiegogo's platform offers categories in Film, Music, Gadgets, Gaming, Community and Education among others. Recent groundbreaking Canadian campaigns include:
- Film: - Raised over $211,000 to bring an internet television series about a video game player and his brother to life as a full-length film.
- Music: - A well-known metal band decided to take control of its career and crowdfund its latest album, free of obligations to record labels. The band raised over $341,000 from 8,361 contributors.
- Gadgets: - A record-breaking campaign for the first affordable 3D scanner that raised over C$471,000 to become the most funded international campaign ever on Indiegogo.
Indiegogo also announced the launch of Indiegogo City Sessions, two workshop-style events to be held this summer in Toronto and Montreal. Both events will feature crowdfunding insights from Indiegogo co-founder Danae Ringelmann, first-hand tips from successful Canadian campaigns and practical guidance on running a successful campaign-everything from how to market a campaign to common mistakes that campaign owners make.
