New App-Based Approach to Dramatically Improve the Listening Experience Extends to Streaming Radio Services

Streaming radio services are clamoring to differentiate themselves from the competition. Presently these services are compared based on their library of songs, user interface, monthly fees, social sharing capabilities and song recommendation engine -- none of which has anything to do with sound quality. It's widely accepted that sound quality is an important consideration when purchasing headphones, so it stands to reason that the sound quality of streaming radio services themselves will become increasingly important as the market continues to mature.
"It's typically thought that to get better audio quality, you have to increase bandwidth," said Chris Kyriakakis, Audyssey's founder and CTO. "What we've found in our research is that bandwidth is not the leading cause of poor sound quality. It's actually the acoustical problems of the playback devices."
Audyssey developed AmpIT ™ to give streaming radio services the ability to deliver a superior listening experience. This turnkey solution, available for iOS and Android, accesses a cloud-based collection of headphone profiles created using Audyssey's proprietary ExpertFit ™ calibration technology. The database today includes more than 200 headphone models from 55 different manufacturers and will grow to include many more headphones in the months ahead. Additionally, Audyssey plans to include profiles for speakers, docks, sound bars, cars and even the internal speakers for mobile phones and tablets. Consumers simply have to choose which playback device they are using and download the corresponding profile from the Audyssey cloud database.
