Newport Beach Plastic Surgeon Responds to Latest Statistics From ASAPS
Dr. Semira Bayati Compares the Data Released by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery for 2012 to the Trends She Has Noticed at Her Own Private Practice

Since she began her private practice, Dr. Bayati has noticed the number of people seeking cosmetic procedures steadily increase year-to-year. When looking at the recent statistics released by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) for 2012, she sees a direct correlation between the data they have collected and the procedures performed at her own practice.
ASAPS compiles comprehensive statistics not only about the number of patients in the United States that seek out particular cosmetic procedures, but also demographic data on each procedure performed. This data is collected from over 21,000 surveys taken by board-certified physicians across the spectrum of surgical and nonsurgical specialties.
For 2012, ASAPS reports that the top three surgical procedures were:
Liposuction
Tummy tuck
Dr. Bayati notes that the popularity of these procedures accurately reflects her experience at her own Newport Beach plastic surgery practice. She adds that facelifts and eyelid surgeries were also popular among her patients last year.
ASAPS also reported that the top three nonsurgical procedures in 2012 were:

Dermal fillers
Laser hair removal
While confirming that these procedures were the top nonsurgical treatments performed at her practice, she added that she had seen a significant increase in the frequency with which these procedures were requested. The cites patient referral as one possible reason for this increase. As patients become more comfortable discussing nonsurgical treatments with their friends and family, those patients' friends and family develop an increased interest in investigating the procedure for themselves. In addition, there has been an increased interest from Dr. Bayati's male patients in nonsurgical procedures such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and laser hair removal.
Dr. Bayati expects that 2013 will follow the trend of previous years, and that ASAPS will once again record an increase in both surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic procedures. As more and more people request aesthetic enhancement procedures, she expects more and more patients will feel comfortable visiting her Newport Beach practice for a consultation and discuss the best way to achieve the cosmetic results they are seeking.
