From Burin Bay Arm, Newfoundland to Repulse Bay, Nunavut, 29 schools across Canada have received funds in the seventh and final round of WWF's Green CommUnity School Grants Program.

WWF and Loblaw Companies Limited (Loblaw) are proud to announce the allocation of $100,000 in grants to elementary and secondary schools across Canada to engage students in green initiatives.

The grants are made possible through partial proceeds from Loblaw's charge-for-plastic shopping bag program in its stores, which has reduced the number of plastic shopping bags from their stores nationally by more than five billion since 2007. The grants are designed to encourage students' interest in environmental stewardship, as well as to provide a hands-on learning experience in sustainability and greening communities.

This round of grants will provide funding for a range of projects, including:

Over the past four years, WWF's Green CommUnity School Grants program has helped support over 200 environmental initiatives in schools across Canada, as part of WWF's ongoing work with Canada's education community. This legacy will be carried forward by WWF's continuing Schools for a Living Planet program. More information is available at wwf.ca/schools.
