Cherry Harriman Awarded CHA's Marion Stephenson Award
(firmenpresse) - NIAGARA FALLS, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 06/10/13 -- Alice Downing, Chair of the Canadian Healthcare Association, yesterday announced British Columbia's Cherry Harriman as the recipient the 2013 Marion Stephenson Award. The award was conferred during the Association's 70th Annual General Meeting in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
The Marion Stephenson Award recognizes outstanding contributions or achievements to community care, demonstrable long-standing impact on the sector, contribution to research, policy development, administration, program and service delivery, and direct service within the sector. The award, established by the former Canadian Association for Community Care, which integrated with the Canadian Healthcare Association in 2006, is named for Marion Stephenson, the first recipient, in recognition of her contribution to community care education and her long-standing commitment to the former Canadian Association for Community Care. Ms. Stephenson also enjoyed an eighteen year distinguished career with the Canadian Healthcare Association in its education department.
Cherry Harriman has been in nursing for over 45 years, 32 of which she has dedicated to serving one of our country's most vulnerable populations: seniors living in residential or long-term care. Ms Harriman started as a floor nurse in her early career and has worked in a variety of nursing leadership positions in Residential Care and most recently was the Acting Executive Director, Residential Care, Assisted Living & Acquired Brain Injury Program in Fraser Health.
Ms. Harriman has demonstrated her dedication to health care through her pioneering work in creating the Caring Journey education program. This program is founded in the principles of person-centred care and promotes a humanistic philosophy that recognizes that patients and residents are, above all else, individuals. This work has established the Caring Journey as a foundational education program for all direct care workers and leadership in the Fraser Health Residential Care and Assisted Living program.
"On behalf of the Canadian Healthcare Association I would like to offer Cherry Harriman my warmest congratulations," said Alice Downing, Board Chair, Canadian Healthcare Association. "Cherry has dedicated her life's work to improving quality of care for the most vulnerable Canadians. She is a most worthy recipient of this important award."
