Sysmex Europe sponsors educational workshops at Euromedlab 2013
Norderstedt, Germany, 06 June 2013 – Last week, Sysmex Europe organised and sponsored two educational workshops at Euromedlab in Milan. Each workshop included two presentations, which in total were attended by over 400 people. The presentations addressed the latest applications in laboratory diagnostics developed by Sysmex Europe Medical Scientific department in cooperation with Sysmex’s R&D and Clinical Management Concepts departments in Kobe, Japan. They were based on the scientific evaluators’ point of view and reflected their experiences.
(firmenpresse) - The world of laboratory diagnostics is changing for reasons like the increasing economic pressure driving laboratories to seek greater efficiency. Innovations by companies like Sysmex are improving the clinical significance and effectiveness of automated haematology and other diagnostic sciences. The content of the presentations at Euromedlab in Milan shows that there are exciting improvements available for immediate use and equally exciting new developments in the pipeline.
On Wednesday afternoon, Professor Samual Machin from University College London started the Sysmex scientific sessions with a talk on the issues related to measuring platelets. He discussed how the use of the platelet-fluorescence parameter available on Sysmex’s new XN-Series can help indicate at an earlier stage whether a therapy is beneficial to a patient. Next, the initial results of Sysmex’s new thrombopoiesis workflow management software evaluated by Dr Joachim Bauch in the St. Johannes hospital laboratory in Dortmund, Germany, was presented. The study combined relevant patient information with analyser information for optimising diagnosis and monitoring thrombocytopenic patients. The initial results point to improved clinical workflow efficiency without a loss of economic efficiency.
Following the thrombocytopenia session, two experts from Erasmus University Hospital in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, discussed the latest developments in Sysmex’s research related to body fluids. Cherina Fleming spoke about body fluids in general, their sources in diagnostics and the issues measuring them. She also showed that, using chamber counting and cytospin morphology, the results of Sysmex’s XN-Series’ measurement are as accurate as the reference method while more effective since they are fully automated and easy to carry out. To close the sessions, Dr Robert de Jonge provided an exciting insight into some initial results from the XN-Series research mode. In this mode, the XN is capable of differentiating (CSF) leucocytes in cerebrospinal fluids, counting erythrocytes to zero and counting pathologically reactive activated cells. With further substantiation, this means clinicians will be able to identify brain bleeding (SAAH) with high sensitivity and specificity, and differentiate between infectious and non-infectious CSFs.
