Media Advisory/CUPE presenting to Senate about C-377: Harper's bill is unconstitutional
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 06/05/13 -- The Canadian Union of Public Employees is presenting to the Senate Banking, Commerce and Trade Committee to discuss Bill C-377, the so called Union transparency act.
"Bill C-377 is not about transparency or accountability. The real motivation for the Harper conservative government is to silence unions and their members, through the back door route of the federal Income Tax Act. The reality is that labor unions are regulated provincially, beyond the reach of the federal government. On top of being unconstitutional, the piece of legislation is unnecessary since unions are already accountable to their members. Bill C-377 must be withdrawn or defeated in its entirety" said Paul Moist, National President of the Canadian Union of Public Employees.
WHAT: CUPE National President Paul Moist will present to the Senate Committee on Banking, Commerce and Trade in opposition to Bill C-377.
WHEN: Wednesday, June 5, 2013, 4:15 pm.
WHERE: Room 9, Victoria Building, 140 Wellington Street, Ottawa
