Storenvy Opens Rotating, Multi-Store Pop-Up Shop, Bringing Next-Generation Online Shopping Offline
The Rumors Are True: Indie Retail Spotted in San Francisco's Financial District
(firmenpresse) - SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/05/13 -- Storenvy.com, the world's destination for discovering, sharing, shopping and selling creative things, has been flirting with the offline world as it opens its first-ever physical Pop-Up Shop. Sandwiched between the flurry of the Financial District and the big brand mecca of Union Square, the store features five new and original Storenvy.com merchants, each selling a variety of unique, hard-to-find items, every month. The Pop-Up Shop gives online store owners a chance to showcase and sell their merchandise in the offline world, and gives consumers the opportunity to discover items not typically found in traditional retail stores.
After a three month trial run, the pop-up experience has been so successful that Storenvy Founder & CEO Jon Crawford decided to extend the concept store's lease indefinitely. "We've been thrilled to give some of our best online merchants their first opportunity with an actual retail space, staffed by the actual owners. It's been both a fun retail experiment and a rapid proof of concept incubator."
Indeed, , who was in the Pop-Up Shop during March and April, had such positive feedback that they've graduated to their own physical storefront, also in Crocker Galleria where the Storenvy shop is located. "Getting the opportunity to 'test' out a storefront without committing to expensive rents and fixed costs made doing my market research in the Financial District possible," says owner Christina Ruiz. "I never would have been able to realize the true retail potential without it."
Storenvy is in good company as fashion-forward online brands like Warby Parker and Bonobos both recently joined the "showrooming" trend with their respective Class Trip and Guideshops. The difference here is that Storenvy is using its own brand might to showcase hand-picked local merchants that embody the Storenvy aesthetic, and then giving it a real "here today, gone tomorrow" feel by rotating new ones in monthly.
"When you come into the Pop-Up, you're not only shopping at five great local businesses but you're also keenly aware that there are over 41,000 more stores waiting for you on Storenvy.com," quips Crawford. "We hope to continue to push what retail shopping means and how we can best make authentic and passionate merchants shine."
Does that mean more pop-ups in other cities? "We've had a lot of interest in taking the Storenvy experience on the road, but what that might look like is still in the works. No matter what, we'll definitely continue our mission to humanize e-commerce in a very personal and delightful way."
This month, the Pop-Up Shop features five local businesses that use Storenvy to power their online stores:
