Minister MacKay to Attend the Meeting of NATO Defence Ministers in Brussels, Belgium
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 06/04/13 -- Today the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, is in Brussels, Belgium, to participate in a two-day NATO meeting with his defence counterparts from Allied and Partner nations.
"I believe this upcoming meeting with my NATO counterparts will further advance our efforts in transforming and reforming the Alliance," said Minister MacKay. "Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces will continue to work to ensure that the Alliance delivers value for money through the efficient use of NATO resources."
During the meeting, NATO Defence Ministers will engage in a strategic discussion on defence planning and capability development, including the NATO Defence Planning Process, with a view to ensuring continued progress towards the 2012 Chicago Summit's vision of NATO Forces 2020. They will also discuss ways to foster military interoperability through enhanced training and exercises. Ministers will also take part in a meeting of the NATO-Georgia Commission, and discuss the Alliance's ongoing mission in Afghanistan in a session with International Security Assistance Force troop-contributing countries.
Canada remains at the forefront of efforts to transform and reform the Alliance into a fit-for-purpose, political-military hub that enables Allies and non-NATO Partners to address current and future security challenges.
