Canadian Oil Sands Limited Donates $3 Million to Position the Calgary Stampede for Its Next 100 Years
Gift will support the transformation of 30 acres of land into an inner city park
(firmenpresse) - CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/30/13 -- (TSX: COS) (OTCQX: COSWF) (COS) today announced a donation of $3 million to the Calgary Stampede as it moves forward into its second century.
The funds will be directed towards Riverfront Park, a new urban oasis and gathering place along the Elbow River with reclaimed green space including the addition of 200 trees and 800 new shrubs. The Park will also be the new setting for Indian Village and First Nations programming.
"Canadian Oil Sands recognizes that the Calgary Stampede not only represents our city's great heritage, but also has a unique vision for building a year-round, world-class gathering place for Calgarians and visitors," said Marcel Coutu, President and Chief Executive Officer of COS. "The same Western values of determination, entrepreneurialism and a can-do spirit that created the oil sands industry were integral to transforming a small-town rodeo into The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. We are pleased to support an organization that prides itself in bringing people together to commemorate Calgary's Western and agricultural traditions."
In recognition of this significant contribution, the Calgary Stampede has created Canadian Oil Sands Plaza. The Plaza is next to the newly renovated Agriculture Building in Stampede Park and home to the iconic "By the Banks of the Bow" sculpture. Centrally located, the Plaza is already a popular meeting place for families and visitors alike. As the larger plans evolve, the Plaza will offer a direct sightline and primary route to the planned Riverfront Park, which is expected to attract one million visitors annually.
