(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 05/29/13 -- Canada's first Parliamentary Budget Officer from 2008 to 2013, Kevin Page will be honoured at a public forum at Toronto City Hall on Wednesday, May 29th, with the presentation of

the 2013 Alexander Gorlick Humanitarian Award for his exemplary public service.

The Older Canadians Network began in 1993, as the Alliance of Seniors To Protect Canada's Social Programs, in response to successive Federal budgets that demonstrated a substantial withdrawal of financial and political support for Canada's cherished social safety net. It was founded by Alexander Gorlick and that generation of seniors whose ideals and values were shaped by the hardship and sacrifice experienced during the Great Depression and World Wars. Today, as the Older Canadians Network & Alliance of Seniors we are an active, diverse, and growing non-partisan, non-profit coalition of individuals and organizations representing the concerns of well-informed, mid-life and older adults to the general public and to all levels of government.

Our mission is to preserve and enhance Canada's social programs on behalf of present and future generations; to promote a society where all persons have an equal opportunity to live with dignity, to realize their potential, and to participate in the democratic process; and to educate and raise public awareness about the values, life experiences, and lessons learned by Canada's older citizens.

In the execution of his duties as a public servant, Kevin Page has exemplified those principles which foster Canadian democracy and freedom by challenging ideology-driven governance to the exclusion of evidence-based policy development.
