Minister Toews Comments on Two Removals From Wanted by the CBSA
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 05/27/13 -- Public Safety Minister Vic Toews issued the following statement after the Canada Border Services Agency today announced the removals of Kenroy Clifford Davis and Wasford Uriah Steer, who had been featured on the "Wanted by the CBSA" list.
"Our government is committed to ensuring law enforcement have the tools they need to locate and remove those who hide in this country illegally and threaten our citizens. We will not tolerate flagrant disregard for Canadian law and abuse of our generous immigration system. I commend the efforts of law enforcement officers such as those from the Toronto Police Service and the CBSA, whose vigilance is instrumental in helping keep our streets and communities safe."
Davis was removed on May 13, having been arrested by the Toronto Police Service in April, 2012. He is inadmissible to Canada for serious criminality for being convicted of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, obstruction of a peace officer and robbery. Steer was removed on May 14, after having been apprehended by the Toronto Police Service in August 2011. He was inadmissible to Canada for serious criminality, for being convicted on a number of charges including possession of counterfeit money, fraud and assault causing bodily harm.
To date, as a result of the "Wanted by the CBSA" program, 40 individuals have been located, and 31 removed. Additionally, seven individuals were located abroad.
