Volkswagen Welcomes USA Cycling to Chattanooga

USA Cycling and Professional Road and Time Trial Championships Kick Off at Volkswagen Plant

(firmenpresse) - CHATTANOOGA, TN -- (Marketwired) -- 05/24/13 -- The Volkswagen USA Cycling Professional Road & Time Trial National Championships will kick off today with a press conference at the LEED® Platinum Certified Volkswagen Chattanooga plant. Volkswagen has committed to a four year partnership as the title sponsor of this event.

"We are pleased to welcome USA Cycling to Chattanooga," said Jonathan Browning, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America. "Volkswagen has a storied history and a rich heritage in the sport of cycling and we are excited to welcome one of the most recognized cycling events to the hometown of our newest factory."

America's top men and women professional cyclists will vie for Stars-and-Stripes jerseys at the , which for the first time in the event's 28-year history will be in Chattanooga, Tenn., on May 25 and 27. It also marks the first time the professional women's national championships takes place during the same weekend.

The individual time trials will be contested Saturday on a challenging course at the Volkswagen Chattanooga plant. On Monday, the road races will be held and the climb on Lookout Mountain will play a pivotal role in determining our country's best male and female champions.

"We are very excited about bringing USA Cycling's premier event to Chattanooga," USA Cycling President & CEO Steve Johnson said. "We're very fortunate to have such great partners in Volkswagen and Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga. We're also very proud to bring our professional men's and women's road national championships to one event. Chattanooga and the region have provided extremely competitive courses as well as strong support, both for the riders as well as the event itself."

As part of its commitment to USA Cycling and the sport of cycling, Volkswagen will donate $250 to the USA Cycling Development Foundation for every car sold to a USA Cycling member each year of the sponsorship. Those funds will be used to support the junior, under 23, and women's development team programs.
