Holds No. 49 Position Overall on the Builder 100 List

(firmenpresse) - WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwired) -- 05/20/13 -- Today NeighborWorks America announced that it was named one of the nation's largest builders of affordable homes, according to the Builder 100 list. NeighborWorks America, representing the NeighborWorks network, was ranked No. 3 among builders specializing in affordable for-sale homes. NeighborWorks organizations build homes in suburban, rural and urban markets. For the fourth year, NeighborWorks America ranked among the top 100 of all homebuilders, holding the No. 49 place for 2012 with 608 closings. All of the homes built by the NeighborWorks network are classified as affordable.

In a recovery year for homebuilding, NeighborWorks network members, operating throughout the United States, were able to deliver on their commitment to producing affordable, attractive and energy efficient homes for buyers with low- and moderate-incomes.

"While the housing market is recovering, the recovery is not even across all communities, and it remains challenging for some NeighborWorks homebuilders to find solutions that work for their markets," said Eileen Fitzgerald, NeighborWorks America CEO. "But, whether building homes as part of developments of detached homes, townhomes or condominiums, in urban, suburban or rural markets, homebuyers can count on NeighborWorks to build quality and affordable homes."

Tom Deyo, director of real estate programs at NeighborWorks America, added that, "Increasingly, NeighborWorks organizations are incorporating greener building techniques into their products, including such things as low-waste building practices in their developments, installing energy efficient appliances and water-conserving fixtures, building to standards that create healthy indoor living environments and more, all with the goal of keeping the purchase price and ongoing homeowner energy costs affordable. Moreover, a number of new and rehabilitated homes from NeighborWorks organizations have introduced alternative energy sources for cooling and heating."

Deyo explained that in addition to building with renewable energy sources in mind, NeighborWorks organizations are looking at alternatives to traditional stick-built housing such as factory built homes, which are a small, but growing part of the for-sale home business for several NeighborWorks organizations. This is especially true for those NeighborWorks organization that are acting quickly to help homeowners affected by natural disasters. Most recently, Affordable Housing Alliance, a member of the NeighborWorks network based in Eaton, NJ, was able to work fast and place 17 factory built homes for rent and sale to help homeowners affected by Superstorm Sandy.

In addition to home construction, NeighborWorks organizations offer services to homebuyers that many builders don't, including pre- and post-purchase homebuyer education, and diverse lending options -- in order to help consumers achieve their dream of long-term, affordable homeownership.
