Grantham University Gives Back, Provides a Hand Up to Hillcrest Transitional Housing
(firmenpresse) - KANSAS CITY, MO -- (Marketwired) -- 05/16/13 -- , an online education provider for working adults, announced its Bronze-level sponsorship of this year's annual Hillcrest Walk for the Homeless. Grantham University will support the walks in Hillcrest's Platte and Jackson County locations on Saturday, May 18. The Platte County walk starts at 8 a.m. at Zona Rosa. The Jackson County walk begins at 10 a.m. at Unity Village, Mo.
Hillcrest Transitional Housing offers homeless families, singles, and youth a disciplined educational program within a caring, supportive environment. According to Hillcrest, the average age of a homeless person in Missouri is seven years old. In its 27th year, the Hillcrest Walk for the Homeless raises funds to provide area families with furnished housing, life skills education, and support while they work toward self-sufficiency.
"After the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Grantham University and its staff relocated to Kansas City. The community welcomed us by assisting with everything from housing and clothes to medical needs," said Grantham University President Joseph McGrath. "We know what it's like to need help making a transition. That's why supporting the Hillcrest event is so important to us. No one, least of all a seven-year-old child, should be without a place to call home. Plus, the value that Hillcrest places on self-sufficiency through education is one that we wholeheartedly endorse at Grantham."
