Anyone looking for a unique summer experience can join the tall ship SS Sorlandet for a week of sail training during this summer's Great Lakes Tall Ship Challenge.

No sailing experience is required and participants take part in as much of the sailing life as they wish. They can go aloft in the rig, take the helm, cook in the galley and relax on deck. As an added bonus, guest sailors will receive Tall Ship Festival crew passes giving them access to special tall ship fleet crew events at the ports of call they visit while aboard the ship.

Class Afloat is offering a two-week Youth Leadership Expedition aboard the Sorlandet that will challenge youth ages 14 - 21 in a fun and exciting environment as they participate in leadership and personal development workshops while "learning the ropes."

"If you've ever dreamed of sailing a tall ship - this is the perfect summer experience," says Class Afloat president David Jones, the man responsible for bringing the Sorlandet into the Great Lakes. "Whether it's Lake Superior's spectacular scenery, a starry night on Lake Huron, a tall ship race on Lake Ontario or a fleet Parade of Sail into some of North America's great cities - the memories of this summer are guaranteed to last a lifetime."

Landlubbers and sailors alike will find it hard to resist the romance of tall ship sailing once they step aboard the iconic Sorlandet. With her 100 foot tall masts and twenty-two sails, the Sorlandet brings the golden age of tall ship sailing to life. She's the largest tall ship sailing on the Great Lakes this summer.

The Sorlandet is a 210 foot Class 'A' square- rigged tall ship, built in Norway in 1927 as a sail training ship. She was fully restored in the summer of 2012 and sails with a professional mariner crew of ten.

Nine months of the year Sorlandet sails the world's oceans as home to Class Afloat, a private Canadian school offering fully accredited senior high school and university programs. Just weeks before joining the Tall Ship Challenge she completed nine months of ocean sailing that started in Istanbul, Turkey and included three trans-Atlantic crossings with 22 ports of call as far away as Cape Town, South Africa.
