Veveo Awarded Two New Patents for Its Semantic Search, Discovery and Personalization Technologies

ID: 1226512

The Company's Growing Patent Portfolio of 41 Patents Addresses Emerging Consumer Usability Requirements for Smart Connected Devices and Social Media

(firmenpresse) - ANDOVER, MA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/13/13 -- , a leading provider of semantic technologies to bridge the usability gap in connected devices and applications with intelligent search, discovery and personalization , announced today it has been granted two new patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) -- which marks the ninth patent awarded to Veveo this year and brings its total count of issued patents to 41.

Veveo has filed more than 75 to date for advanced technologies that support more than 100 million connected devices and televisions globally through Tier-1 service providers, device OEMs and payTV operators. The new patents further enhance Veveo's unparalleled intelligent search and hyper-personalization capabilities and relate to performing ambiguous multi-term search queries and selecting and presenting content based on dynamically identifying micro genres associated with the content.

The patent entitled (USPTO number ) covers processing of a search query entered by a user of a device with a text input interface with overloaded keys (multiple alphabets/numbers on the same key), such as found on phone keypads or device remote controls. Users can type just a few letters of the search query by pressing each key containing an alphabet or letter and discover content. The system handles the ambiguous input and directly returns a relevant response matching the ambiguous input.

The second new patent assigned to Veveo entitled was assigned USPTO number . This patent covers a method of selecting and presenting content based on learned user preferences. The system learns user preferences implicitly from users' actions in content discovery and selection. This invention removes the need for the user to explicitly state interest or to mark items as favorites. By learning user preference, the system presents content that is aligned with the user's interests in subsequent content discovery.

"Our extensive commitment to research and technology innovation is a key differentiator in bringing the next-generation semantic search and navigation technologies to market," said Murali Aravamudan, founder and CEO of Veveo. "The fact that the company has been awarded nine patents this year alone is a true testament to our team's hard work, dedication and unwavering focus on innovation."
