The Tough MINI Rally Car
(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwired) -- 05/09/13 -- With its bulldog stance and plucky spirit, MINI and rallying have always been a match made in heaven. Whether it's when the classic Mini turned heads to win the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally or the MINI ALL4 Racing left the pack in the dust for two years in a row at The Dakar Rally, the gutsy car's racing heritage will always come to the fore.
For those looking to explore the offers and to own their own piece of MINI racing history a special edition MINI John Cooper Works Countryman ALL4 Racing Dakar Winner 2013 special edition has been launched to celebrate the tough rally car's historic win at the hands of Stephane Peterhansel and Jean-Paul Cottrett.
The Dakar Rally is regarded as the most testing endurance race ever created. It began in 1978 and up to 2008 the event was held exclusively in Africa. Over the years, the route has changed several times and in 2009, the event moved to South America. This year's route from Lima, Peru to Santiago, Chile saw competitors pit their wits and their machine's power against sand dunes and the Andes mountain range to complete up to 800 kilometres a day over two weeks. The rally's gruelling nature sees more than 50% of entrants retire each year.
But the MINI ALL4 Racing conquered the rally and the new special edition car, of which only 11 units will be available in France to mark Peterhansel's 11th career win at the Dakar Rally, reflects this.
It's based on the MINI John Cooper Works Countryman, MINI's first model to combine the John Cooper Works powertrain and chassis technology with the all-wheel-drive system which channels power from the 218hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine to all four wheels as required. As a result, the driver has traction and directional stability as well as noticeable agility around corners.
As expected from a MINI, the special edition car looks the part too. Inspired by the eye-catching Dakar MINI ALL4 Racing winner, this car is matt black with special bright green design features including Sport Stripes with the Dakar Rally winner's logo and Peterhansel's signature on the bonnet. Finishing touches include Gravity Black leather sports seats, bespoke side indicator surrounds and 19-inch light alloy wheels in Cross-Spoke Crusher design.
