New $12 Million Eco Lodge for Alberta

ID: 1224222

(firmenpresse) - STRATHMORE, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/07/13 -- The Canadian Badlands Foundation is pleased to announce that the Canadian Badlands tourism region of southeastern Alberta has been selected as the location for a new luxury eco lodge that will be a first-of-its-kind in Alberta. The sustainable, high-end, low impact lodge will be built near the former settlement of Steveville in Special Area #2 and adjacent to Dinosaur Provincial Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which has one of the largest concentrations of dinosaur fossils in the world. Alberta's unique Special Areas were created in the late 1930s during the drought years and cover close to 5.1 million acres of semi-arid landscape.

Pure North Canada, a Canadian hospitality company that specializes in eco lodge design, development, operation and management is solely owned by Deneen Allen. It has chosen the Canadian Badlands for its latest purpose-built sustainable accommodation project based on the support the project received from its initial meetings with the Canadian Badlands Foundation, Dinosaur Provincial Park, and the Special Areas. Several studies also led to the Pure North Canada decision. This included a 2011 Canadian Badlands Tourism Investment Opportunities Study produced by Sierra Planning and Management which suggests strong market demand and potential for the kind of product Pure North Canada will provide in the region.

"This luxury eco lodge project represents a $12 million dollar capital investment in the Canadian Badlands," says Canadian Badlands Foundation executive director, Cindy Amos. "It will also create new full and part time jobs and serve as a model for future sustainable tourism development in the region."

In addition to the main lodge, the two quarter sections of land adjacent to Dinosaur Provincial Park will also include 24 eco-cabins and an environmentally-designed RV site with solar-power hookups and luxury amenities. Construction is expected to begin in 2014.

The Canadian Badlands Foundation is the primary agency for encouraging and directly supporting tourism investment in the region.
