Message from Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston on the Occasion of Mental Health Week

These challenges come in myriad forms: depression, anxiety, mood disorders and addictions, to name but a few, with symptoms that range from mild to severe. They can affect anyone, at any time: a child, a sibling, a co-worker, a loved one. It's a struggle no one should have to face alone.
Sharon and I believe that we need to show more care to those who are suffering. We have both seen how much good we can do when we come together, as Canadians, when we show our compassion, when we listen carefully, think innovatively and, most importantly, involve everyone in building a healthier society.
During Mental Health Week, we encourage all Canadians to break down the stigmas associated with this widespread health issue and to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with those burdened by mental illness. Because together, we can succeed.
