mic AG embarks on the production of IT and measuring equipment
- Establishment of SmartM GmbH (Meiningen)
- Made-to-order production for mic AG's portfolio companies

Munich, 3 May 2013 - mic AG, listed in the Entry Standard of the Frankfurt
Stock Exchange (ISIN DE000A0KF6S5), is systematically taking the next step
for growth with the establishment of SmartM GmbH. SmartM GmbH, located in
Meiningen, will concentrate on the made-to-order production of high-tech
products from the optics, microsystems and informations technology sectors.
Alongside production, its business activities will include the development
and optimisation of product series as well as their logistics. Ronny
Wozniza (43) is the managing director of SmartM GmbH and has more than 15
years experience in the fibre optics sector.
'Significant and long-term increase in value'
SmartM GmbH will, as a first step, manufacture products for businesses from
the mic-portfolio. In addition, the scope of services will include support
in documentation, approval, quality management, purchasing and logistics.
Claus-Georg Müller, Chair of the Board for mic AG, comments on the further
strengthening of the portfolio: 'SmartM GmbH provides real added value for
our entire portfolio. Portfolio companies such as FIBOTEC FIBEROPTICS GmbH,
FiSEC GmbH and PiMON GmbH will profit significantly as a result. We expect
a significant and long-term increase in the value of our portfolio with
this step.'
'Reduction of production costs'
SmartM Managing Director Ronny Wozniza adds: 'Our goal is to ensure the
reliable delivery of portfolio products and to reduce the manufacturing
costs of the products through professional purchasing and production
management. The integration of SmartM GmbH within mic AG is an important
step in order to increase the value of the portfolio companies and to
optimise both the production and the delivery of the products. Quality
control will also significantly improve as a result.'
'Manufacturing Service Company' for niche products
Production of the first series of products will commence shortly in
Meiningen. As the next step it is planned to establish SmartM GmbH as a
'Manufacturing Service Company' and to produce tailor-made products for
external customers. 'You could compare the business model with that of the
company 3-EDGE GmbH, in which we hold a stake, and which has specialised in
the sales and service of niche products with outstanding success. We are
striving for the same model in the production sector with SmartM', explains
