Nearly 25 million Americans suffer from asthma and 60% of asthma cases are "allergic-asthma." These staggering statistics all demonstrate how hidden allergens from common household pests can put us at risk for serious (and potentially life-threating) diseases. A new public service campaign offers information on safeguarding the health and safety of families from household pests. The campaign is a joint effort by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America and the National Pest Management Association. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1953, is the premier patient organization for people with asthma and allergies. NPMA is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization whose mission is to support the pest control industry as protectors of public health and property.

The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) empowers the public with information that can help safeguard the health and safety of their families, communities and the environment. As part of this goal, the association conducts public education and awareness activities for consumers. Household pests and pest-transmitted diseases are not restricted to any particular region of the country or a specific time of year.

The Jeffrey Modell Foundation (JMF) is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to research, physician education, patient support, public awareness, advocacy, and newborn screening. Vicki and Fred Modell established the Jeffrey Modell Foundation 26 years ago, in memory of their son Jeffrey, who lost his battle with Primary Immunodeficiency (PI) at the age of 15. PI is a genetic defect of the immune system that is often chronic, serious, and can be fatal. The disorder affects 10 million people worldwide and most are not aware of their condition. PI diseases can go undetected because they do not have unique symptoms of their own. Rather, they appear as "ordinary" infections, often of the sinuses, ears, or lungs.
