Live Streaming Eye Surgery May 1st Brings Viewers Into the Operating Room
Dr. Robert Rivera of Hoopes Vision in Salt Lake City Uses Google Hangouts to Stream Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) Surgery and Answer Questions From Viewers
(firmenpresse) - SALT LAKE CITY, UT -- (Marketwired) -- 04/29/13 -- On Wednesday, May 1st, Robert Rivera, M.D. of Hoopes Vision in Salt Lake City will perform the Visian ICL (Implantable Colllamer Lens) procedure for treating nearsightedness live via Google Hangouts and take questions from viewers in real time during surgery.
The live event will begin at 9:00 PM Eastern / 6:00 PM Pacific (1:00 AM GMT on May 2nd) and streamed at .
Viewers may submit questions before and during the live procedure via Twitter using hashtag #LiveSurgery. They may also pose questions and join the discussion during the procedure (using various online platforms) via the main HoopesVision.com/LiveSurgery broadcast page.
Dr. Rivera will perform the Visian ICL procedure on Ogden, Utah optometrist Mike Judkins, OD, who has been severely nearsighted and dependent on glasses or contacts since the age of 13.
The live surgery will be preceded by a brief introduction from Gregory Parkhurst, M.D. of NuVision in San Antonio (and former Chief of Ophthalmology & Refractive Surgery at Fort Hood -- the world's largest military base). Dr. Parkhurst will discuss history and use of the Visian ICL. The live surgery will then be streamed from multiple angles, including a close-up view from Dr. Rivera's surgical microscope.

The procedure on May 1st will be the fourth live-streamed surgery performed by Dr. Rivera, who is the most experienced ICL surgeon in the U.S. and among the first surgeons worldwide to live stream procedures direct from the operating room.
