CGA-Canada Re-Enters Unification Talks with CPA Canada
Significant majority of CGA affiliates signal intention to unite the Canadian accounting profession
(firmenpresse) - VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/24/13 -- The Certified General Accountants Association of Canada (CGA-Canada) has returned to talks aimed at unifying the accounting profession in Canada under the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) banner.
The move is in step with the decisions to re-join unification discussions by CGA Northwest Territories/Nunavut, CGA Nova Scotia, CGA Prince Edward Island and CGA Yukon, as well as CGA-Canada's international affiliates.
More than 85 per cent of the CGA affiliates of Canada are now involved in discussions or have already unified. This represents 55 per cent of the CGA membership. Currently, organizations representing almost 90 per cent of Canada's professional accountants are committed to unification under the CPA designation.
"CGA-Canada is guided by the best interest of all our members, CGAs and the profession," says Anthony Ariganello, president and CEO of CGA-Canada.
"We have entered this round of discussions with renewed optimism and based on the feedback from our affiliates. Our focus is on ensuring the success and opportunities of our members, all certified general accountants and students, now and in the future."
Ariganello notes that the majority of CGA affiliates have determined that their interests will be addressed in any potential agreement.
The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Society of Management Accountants of Canada united on January 1, 2013 to create CPA Canada.
