Minister Clement Highlights the Government of Canada's Efforts to Reduce Red Tape

ID: 1219933

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 04/24/13 -- The Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board, today highlighted the Government of Canada's efforts to reduce red tape and support jobs and growth in an address to members of the Canadian Consumer Specialty Products Association.

"The Canadian Consumer Specialty Products Association-representing a $20-billion industry with exports of over $1 billion annually-demonstrates how the ingenuity and creativity of Canada's private sector drives growth and job creation," said Minister Clement. "That's why our Government is focused on ensuring Canadian businesses have the tools they need to compete and succeed."

The Government's Red Tape Reduction Action Plan, launched in October 2012, is one of the most far-reaching red tape-cutting exercises in the world today. The Plan reduces red tape in areas ranging from tax and payroll to transport and trade, and introduces time-saving measures like single windows and electronic submissions.

The One-for-One Rule, a hallmark of the Plan, effectively caps the amount of red tape applied to business. It places strict controls on both the amount and costs of red tape arising from regulatory changes, which are to be offset from the stock of existing regulations.

"The Rule is an important tool for reducing the costly and burdensome regulations that stifle and impede innovation," said Shannon Coombs, President of the Canadian Consumer Specialty Products Association. "We look forward to working with the Government to ensure the effective implementation of this initiative."

"Our Government understands that the way to create jobs and growth is to reduce barriers for businesses, not raise them," said Minister Clement. "Our Government's Red Tape Reduction Action Plan ensures cutting red tape is part of the Government's DNA. It goes farther than we have ever gone before to meet the needs of business to innovate and compete."
