(firmenpresse) - VALCARTIER, QUEBEC -- (Marketwired) -- 04/22/13 -- Sixty-five Junior Canadian Rangers from across Canada have travelled to Canadian Forces Base Valcartier (Cadet Camp) to participate in the 2013 Junior Canadian Rangers National Marksmanship Championship, being held from April 23 to 25, 2013, in Valcartier, Quebec.

"I wish all the cadets participating in this exciting event the best of luck," said the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence. "This competition is a wonderful opportunity for these young Canadian Rangers to enhance their exceptional skills and build important virtues such as self-discipline and confidence."

The Junior Canadian Rangers National Marksmanship Championship is the final stage marking the culmination of a year's marksmanship training and competition for Junior Canadian Rangers across Canada. Participants have already successfully competed in local and regional marksmanship competitions. Participants will put their skills and determination to the test against some of the best Junior Canadian Rangers marksmen from across Canada.

"In addition to being a marksmanship championship and time to test skills, it is a wonderful opportunity for Junior Canadian Rangers from all across Canada to meet and learn more about each other and the region in which the competition takes place," said Rear-Admiral Jennifer Bennett, Chief Reserves and Cadets. "For many participants this may be the first time for them to see a big city when they arrive in Quebec City, and to see tall trees, play on grass, and experience what we often take for granted."

The Junior Canadian Rangers Program offers young people in remote and isolated communities across Canada a unique opportunity to participate in a variety of fun and rewarding activities in an informal setting. Under the supervision of the Canadian Rangers and local adult volunteers, these young Canadians (ages 12 to 18) become active and engaged citizens of their local communities.

The media and the public are invited to attend the activities and competitions at Canadian Forces Base Valcartier (Cadet Camp), Quebec.
