DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung at AERO 2013: Pilot accessories, apps and flight information

ID: 1218224

In the year of its twentieth anniversary, DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung will again take part in the International Trade Exhibition for General Aviation (AERO) in Friedrichshafen from 24 to 27 April. At stand A5-221, DFS will provide information about its aeronautical publications and products. Flight information services (FIS) will demonstrate its mobile radar simulator. DFS will also present new pilot accessories, which include the DFS Pilot Line products. Additionally, visitors can find out about new functions of existing systems and applications.

(firmenpresse) - LED LENSER flashlights, including ones with a special red filter for night flights, will be available for purchase as DFS is now its official aviation wholesaler. Sennheiser headsets and ICOM radios are also new in the DFS line-up. In addition, DFS will be displaying its new products in the DFS Pilot Line which include flight bags, kneeboards and caps. These products can be personalised, for example flight schools or aero clubs.

The iPad app VFRiManual, a digital extension of the AIP VFR, now shows the pilot’s current position by displaying a small aircraft symbol on the aeronautical and VFR charts. Altitude, speed and heading are provided by GPS. A finger tap on an aerodrome on the chart opens the associated information and charts from the AIP VFR directly.

The VFR Radiotelephony Simulator, the German interactive computer training software, now also uses an airplane symbol to depict the position on the Aerodrome and Visual Operation Charts during exercises. Training includes special phraseology for crossing a control zone with or without prior contact to FIS, for intersection departures and helicopter flights.

This year, flight information services will again demonstrate a FIS working position and a mobile radar simulator which allow visitors to take on the role of a FIS controller and role-play various scenarios. DFS personnel will hold numerous talks, including ones about the special aspects of Class E airspace, flight information for glider flying, and about collision avoidance measures.

Herwart Goldbach, the head of FIS at the control centre in Langen, will moderate a podium discussion on how anxiety can be beneficial. In the exhibition area called Avionics Avenue, presentations will explain the VFR radiotelephony simulator and the flight tracking system Spidertracks.
