Canadian Bar Association, Bc Branch (CBABC) Supports Legal Aid Funding Resolutions

ID: 1216591

(firmenpresse) - VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/15/13 -- Kerry L. Simmons, president of the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch (CBABC) issued the following statement today in recognition of recent decisions to support a legal aid funding resolution:

"The CBABC appreciates the initiative of the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities (AVICC) in supporting this resolution and recognizing the importance of legal aid in our communities. We also extend our thanks to the members of Lantzville Council for joining our efforts to put justice issues at the forefront for British Columbians.

"Earlier this year, one of our members (Lantzville Councillor Jennifer Millbank) was successful in presenting a legal aid resolution to Council. Yesterday, AVICC voted in favour of ensuring the resolution is considered at the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) Annual General Meeting in September.

"The CBABC has been working tirelessly to increase legal aid funding in BC, and has been seeking support through local municipalities, chambers of commerce and political parties with a number of submissions and economic briefs. It is fitting that during Law Week 2013 we continue to see Access to Justice issues raised by businesses and communities throughout BC."
