Medtronic of Canada Recognized as One of Canada's Best Large Workplaces for 2013
Diversity and inclusion initiatives a key part of creating a best workplace environment

This special designation recognizes the Top 50 large and multinational companies with more than 1,000 employees worldwide. It is based primarily on a survey of employees, which generates a Trust Index© score, and is combined with a Culture Audit© to determine the winners.

As part of its Culture Audit, Medtronic of Canada was recognized by the Great Place to Work® Institute for its various diversity and inclusion initiatives. Medtronic of Canada has a history of partnering with various community organizations to actively engage new immigrants. In 2012, Medtronic of Canada helped recent immigrants gain Canadian experience by providing on-the-job training in their offices. "To connect with new immigrants, we first worked with the Newcomer Centre of Peel, a non-profit organization that serves the region of Peel." says Andre Guerin, Director of HR. "We then carefully review the candidate's international skills and qualifications and ensure that we provide on-the-job experience that will leverage or enhance these skills."
Each trainee receives a monetary honorarium from Medtronic. Last year, Medtronic provided on-the-job experience to four internationally trained professionals, whom they have now hired either on a permanent or contract basis.
