Harper Government Invests in Improvements to Vancouver's Community Infrastructure
(firmenpresse) - VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/09/13 -- Today, Senator Yonah Martin, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for upgrades to the Korean Community Centre under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"By improving facilities such as this, we are helping to boost economic activity while improving local infrastructure," said Senator Martin. "With today's investment, our Government is demonstrating our commitment to creating jobs, growth and long-term economic prosperity."
The Harper Government's investment of $226,602 will support upgrades to the Korean Community Centre, including replacing the stage and floor in the assembly hall, and constructing permanent signage for the building exterior. The Korean Society of British Columbia for Fraternity and Culture will also renovate the kitchen and bathrooms, install new floors and walls for three office spaces. These improvements will modernize the facility and ensure a better recreational experience for all visitors.
"We are extremely pleased to receive this funding from the Government of Canada," said Young Hoon Lee, President of the Korean Society of British Columbia. "These important improvements to the Korean Community Centre are long overdue. This investment through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund will enable the Centre to bring back its lively atmosphere."
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
