Harper Government Helps Manitoba With Storm Recovery Costs
(firmenpresse) - WINNIPEG, MANITOBA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/08/13 -- Today, the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety and Regional Minister for Manitoba, announced a payment of $1,183,183 to the Province of Manitoba through the Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangements (DFAA) for damages caused by wind storms and tornadoes in June 2007.
"Our government works closely with provinces and territories to assist Canadians when natural disasters strike by sharing eligible disaster response and recovery expenses through the DFAA," said Minister Toews. "We have also committed to exploring a new mitigation program in consultation with the provinces and territories, to help lessen the impact of natural disasters on communities.
On June 23-24, 2007, wind storms and tornadoes hit the municipalities of Pipestone, Sifton, Cameron, Whitewater, Morton, Riverside, Turtle Mountain, Strathocona and Argyle and the Whiteshell Provincial Park causing damage to private property and community infrastructure.
Since 2006, the Harper Government has provided more than $645 million to the provinces and territories in disaster financial assistance.
All Canadians have a role in building resilient communities to keep hazards from becoming disasters and to recover from those disasters more quickly.
